Defrosting of Air-Source Heat Pumps: Effect of Real Temperature Data on Seasonal Energy Performance for Different Locations in Italy

In this paper, dynamic simulations of the seasonal coefficient performance (SCOP) Air-Source Heat Pumps will be presented by considering three different heat pump systems coupled with same building located in Italian municipalities: S. Benedetto del Tronto (42°58′ North, 13°53′ East), Milan (45°28′ 9°10′ and Livigno (46°28′ 10°8′ East). Dynamic were conducted employing software package TRNSYS real weather data (i.e., outdoor air temperature humidity as well solar radiation) referring to abovementioned cities for a period 8 years (2013–2020) collected from on-site stations. Attention has been paid modeling defrost cycles order evaluate their influence on unit’s performance. Results show that, when years, thermal energy demand displays huge variations (in some cases it can even double its value), while effective SCOP is characterized scarce variability.
